Parental Alienation Syndrome (PAS)

In recent years, recognition of PAS has increased. PAS is systematic denigration of one parent by the other with the intent of alienating a child against the other parent. In some instances, all of the family members play a role for PAS to take hold. There is an easy temptation to place all of the responsibility for the process on the alienating parent, whose maneuvering is the most obvious.

Cardiff Law School Study

As part of Cardiff University’s Undergraduate Research Programme, we conducted a small study to discover legal professionals’ opinions on how to promote and enforce contact between children and non-resident parents. We have also surveyed the general public and we hope that data from both surveys will be used to form the basis of further research. The project was supervised by Professor Gillian Douglas and Dr Leanne Smith of Cardiff Law School.

Judge rules father brainwashed son into hating mother!

A 13-year-old Ontario boy whose domineering father systematically brainwashed him into hating his mother can be flown against his will to a U.S. facility that deprograms children who suffer from parental alienation, an Ontario Superior Court judge has ruled.

I do understand that children’s' cases involving who a child should live with and who a child should have contact with after parental separation can be very distressing for everyone involved.  However, I cannot comment on the circumstances of individual cases in any jurisdiction but I hope the following general comments on the policy and law on family justice in England and Wales will be useful regarding the issues raised.

He brainwashed my sons, then aged 8 years, to say "we want to live with dad".

My twin sons attend MY former high school.  They have refused me a school report on my sons, even though I offered to pay for photocopying/postage expenses.  I contacted the local education authority, at the civic centre.  The solicitor of the education department informed me that I was most definitely entitled to school reports with regard to my sons.
